2.1 Create Lr catalog and import photos

Tip: We recommend creating a separate Lightroom catalog for each photo shoot. Lightroom is faster with less than 10,000 photos in your catalog.

To create a new catalog, select File > New catalog..., select a folder, specify a name for the catalog and click Create.

If you have all your photos stored in one catalog, you can export your shot to a separate Lightroom catalog. Select the required folder in the Folders section and go to File > Export as Catalog...

Starting from version 2.8.0 and iOS 12, the app supports Smart Previews

Import photos into a new directory - File > Import Photos and Video. In the import window, set Build Previews to 1:1, select a photo, and click Import.

A 1:1 value for the Build Previews parameter provides maximum photo detail.

If the size of the catalog or the time of import is critical for you, then you can select the Standard value. In this case, before importing, you must specify the photo resolution 2880 or 2048:

MacOS: Lightroom menu > Catalog Settings…, File Handling tab, Standard Preview Size select 2880 pixels or 2048 pixels.

Windows: Edit > Catalog Settings… menu, File Handling tab, Standard Preview Size, select 2880 pixels or 2048 pixels.

Important: If you start editing photos after importing, Lightroom removes high-resolution previews for those photos from the catalog. Because of this, the PhotoPicker for these photos will report “High resolution image preview is not available. You need in the Lightroom go to the Library tab, select all the photos and execute Menu-> Library-> Previews-> Build Standard Previews". In this case, just before copying the Lightroom catalog into the PhotoPicker, you need to re-render. To do this, select all the photos, go to the Library tab and select Library> Previews> Build Standard-Sized Preview or Build 1:1 Preview from the menu. This will render only the missing previews.
