# General Overview

Custom catalogs allow you to start sorting photos immediately after a shoot, even while on your way home. You can connect a card reader (e.g., via the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter or a card reader with a USB-C port), import your photos, and begin sorting them.

During the sorting process, you can assign flags, ratings, and color tags to your photos. Once you’re done, you can export the sorting results as XMP files directly into the folder containing the original photos in just a few seconds.

When you return home, simply import the photos into your photo editor (e.g., Lightroom, Capture One, or Camera Raw) as usual. The sorting results will automatically be read from the XMP files, allowing you to seamlessly continue working on your photos.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://photopicker.gitbook.io/v3/custom_catalogs/general.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
